An Activity the Whole Family Will Enjoy

Catch the beading bug. Stringing beads is so satisfying. It is rhythmic, simple, and relaxing. Busy hands tend to make the conversation flow and when you are getting together with family, what else do you need?

This would be a great activity to set out over Thanksgiving. It transports easily, is great for lots of ages and it is basically irresistible. Read on for the how-to, plus some hacks to keep the toddler set occupied.

Set out your beads. Use trays to minimize spillage and roll-aways. We used seed beads, letter beads, wood beads, pom beads and I cut up some paper rainbow straws (great for the littles to use.)

Lay out your scissors, string, and beads. If you are working with young children, it is always a good idea to precut the string and tie a bead on the end. Doing this little task beforehand eliminates waiting and frustration.

If you have younger preschoolers or well-supervised toddlers (beads are a choking hazard), use chenille stems and straw beads. The wire in the stems makes the activity developmentally appropriate (re: fun/ easy) and still makes fantastic jewelry that they can be proud of! Don’t forget to tie a bead at the end and leave extra for fastening the bracelet or necklace at the end.

This is a great activity that can include the entire family! Shop this post and grab your materials in time for some Spring Break fun!
