Halloween Rice Krispie Treats Simplified
/If the thought of making and decorating rice krispie treats with your kids overwhelms you, keep reading.
HOW TO MAKE RICE KRISPIE TREATS:
(tip: if you don’t have the bandwidth to make them, buy them premade and save yourself the mess)
6 cups of crispy rice cereal
4 cups of mini marshmallows
4 tablespoons of butter
Melt together your butter and marshmallows in a big heavy pot over a medium flame. Once they are liquified, dump in your cereal and mix. When everything is combined, spray a large cookie sheet with non-stick spray and press the mixture down. Set it in the freezer for about twenty minutes or until it is firm to the touch. Cut into squares.
Psst… If you don’t feel like making them you can buy them already made. No one is judging you.
Note: I make these ahead of time without the kids.
Why? The decorating is the fun part. Everyone is happier when they can get started right away.
PREP YOUR TABLE FOR PEACEFUL DECORATING:
Give each child a designated spot to work. I cut open a paper bag to use as a placemat. Having a designated spot to work on the table will help keep them anchored instead of wandering aroudn the table while they work.
In that spot, give them everything they’ll need. (Their own pile of eyes, their own sprinkles, and a small dish of white, store bought frosting. Provide a spoon or popsicle stick for spreading the frosting.) I like to give kids their own treats and everything theyll need to decorate them so that there’s no fighting, and no one feels pressure to go fast so that the treats don’t run out.
DECORATE YOUR TREATS:
Have fun and let your kids get creative. A one eyed krispie monster? A cute ghost? Get silly and have fun. When they are finished, your kids can make the treat into a pop with a lollipop stick if they want to. It’s great to leave these decisions up to the children and give them some creative freedom. Don’t focus on a perfect outcome, just have fun with this Halloween activity.
