Do you want to know what is really on your child’s mind? Try this EASY tip...⁣

Stop talking so much and LISTEN⁣
⁣⁣⁣
The other day I took a walk with my youngest. ⁣⁣⁣

  • Spending alone time with my girl ✔️⁣⁣⁣

  • Exercise ✔️⁣⁣⁣

  • Walking the dog ✔️⁣⁣

I started chattering away, asking her ALL the questions about school. Then I attempted to chip away at some reading practice by having her read street signs to me. Then we were counting our steps. ⁣⁣⁣I was feeling pretty good about this walk when…

All of the sudden I looked at her little face and I realized something so important…I was making this walk about me, not her. We were following my grown up agenda.

If I really wanted to connect with her and find out what goes on in that little mind, I needed to chose a different path.
⁣⁣⁣
You know what I did? I SHUT MY MOUTH AND LISTENED.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Guess what happened after a minute or two of awkward silence? ⁣⁣⁣
She got to empty her mind. She told me about a show she watched about horses. Then she told me about an argument she had with her sister and all about a classmate who always forgets her pencils.⁣

She told me about the things that were on her mind.
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ If you want your child to talk to you and let you in on the inner workings of their little minds, you need to s to listen. ⁣⁣ Stop talking and just listen.

It might feel awkward or uncomfortable at first, but if you practice, you’ll learn so much more about your child.

Here is a challenge for you today: Find a pocket of time to walk with your child and just listen. You are going to be amazed at what you find out.
