Valentine Roundup: Simple Ways to Make It Feel Sweet
When the world feels isolating, I double down on connection at home.
My book But I’m Bored is available now...
I’ll be honest. Valentine’s Day feels complicated this year. I’m carrying a lot of anger and grief about ICE and the harm being done to families, and that weight doesn’t disappear just because it’s February. I know you are feeling it as well. It’s hard to focus on heart-shaped anything when bigger questions about safety, humanity, and the future are sitting so close to the surface.
And still, I keep coming back to this: The small moments at home matter.
They matter for our kids, and they matter for us. When so much feels out of our control, being able to shape how our home feels, how we show up for our children, and how we connect with one another can be grounding in a real way. For me, tending to those small things at home helps me steady myself for the bigger things outside of it. So this is not a “do more” Valentine’s post. It’s a “keep it simple and meaningful” one.
I pulled together a Valentine roundup of a few activities we’ve loved over the years. These are easy, flexible, and meant to fit into real life. Use them for a class party, a playdate, or a quiet afternoon at home. They work for little kids and big kids. Even tweens and teens still need invitations to create and connect.
